hey, what did you all think of the new VR Realm activity? it was so popular, i think we have to bring it back. only with many times more equipment. do you have any creative ideas about it?
any other feedback you'd like to give about our signature Game Night activity?

I thought VR Realm was excellent... Maybe not as well-publicized as it could have been as it was off in a quiet room (not everyone knew about it) but we should definitely give it more attention next year! I thought Game Night was fun. The food was unique and awesome! Much appreciated!!

Thanks for all the work the game night team puts in to make it a great experience for everyone!
I liked the historical displays and the use of craigslist for cleaning up lost and found.
It's been a while since the Frets on Fire guy had a booth or the flight simulator guy was in. I think it would be awesome to get projects like those participating in game night.
I did not have much time to talk to the Linux Astronomy group. Did they put up a telescope? If not, is there a place they could do that? Oooh, it would be fun to put up celestia or something similar on one of the big displays and let people play with it.
ciao,

Hi Everyone,
I love the SCALE Museum, I took a lot of pictures of game night and posted them on my Instagram. Love seeing such vintage stuff.
I wish we had a raffle this year like we did last year, the problem with the raffle last year was that I could barely hear the speaker yell out the numbers. I think if we do a raffle next year, then we need some sort of screen showing the numbers that people can read, then it helps the announcer to preserve their voice, at previous Scale raffles, I could barely hear the number spoken.
I wasn't able to try the VR Realm Draw and Paint Program, it would be nice to have more. Still I love Scale at Pasadena as we have more space, and it is fun to use those two secret rooms that aren't used for talks as game rooms.
Der.Hans, good idea about the telescope, we should have a temporary planetarium at Game Night, that would be very fun.
Thank You
Robert

The food was good. It did not seem the usual hotel type food.
Did anyone use the wifi at the game night?

I did for a couple minutes to test my barcode scanner on 2.4 GHz. It connected but got intermittent timeouts so I switched to the cell network.

Hey Lori,
Great job on Game Night. Just running through and taking pictures I had several kids trying to drag me to various activities. I also got a lot of comments on the museum being a pretty awesome throwback.
On the note of VR event. The only caveat I can foresee being an issue in the future with more the HTC Vive's setup is the lighthouses (the units that define the space) need to be isolated with curtains or the experience will be like that of you on a ship, in rough seas. We could easily do this with the same type of curtains we use to separate the conference floor from game night. Overall looking forward to the cool things we can do next.
On a side note. *@Ilan*, do you have any contact info for Value or HTC? Do you think they might be willing to sponsor game night next year by loaning us some VR equipment?

I actually avoided anything that wasn't the main well-light space because I'd been told there were probably some strobe lights for some areas, like laser tag, but wasn't able to get more specific info. It would be awesome if any areas that will have strobes be very clearly labelled. (Apologies if they were and I just missed the signage.)On Fri, 2017-03-10 at 00:40 -0800, Lori Barfield wrote:

hi, jill. thanks for the feedback. if you ever have any concerns about Game Night activities, there is a promotion desk at the front lobby where volunteers will give you answers. sounds like the person you spoke to may be remembering years ago, when we did the first two hours of laser tag in bright light, and then the last half of the night with black lighting and glowing uniforms. that was pretty cool, but we brought back laser tag as an all new experience this year. it was in the main exhibit hall in the back. it was well lit. i think the giant inflatables were a lot of fun, people seemed to get a big kick out of the tank. :-)
btw the Quiet Room on the side is exactly that- for seven years it's been our place for simple fun with table after table of board and role playing games. you'll find good energy in that room coming from the players, but never strobe lights or loud music, because that's not everyone's idea of fun. we do have a sign out that explains the Quiet Room to newcomers.
one of our trademarks is to give attendees a lot of good choices, because everyone has a different idea of what the best kind of Game Night fun is.

Thanks lori! I remembered the strobes from a few years ago so when the desk said they thought there were again I erred on the side of caution. But if that's no longer the case you can bet I'll stop in there next year. :)
