Hi Folks,
A quick reminder that the SCALE CFP is closing in 10 days. We appreciate any help you can offer in spreading the word to your favorite open-source projects, communities and user groups/meetups.

Hi Ilan, et al,
We never heard back from you re our request for a possible 2 rooms for OSSIE at SCaLE 15X. So.... I'll ask again! Our thinking is that one room could be for talks (we already have enough speakers to fill a one day schedule) and the other for a "hands on/meet the speaker-expert" room with such things as 3-D printing, software and hardware demos, etc. But.... we would be happy to settle for just one room if that is all that is available for OSSIE. Actually, a large (double) booth like we have had before as a .org could double as a "second room."
The folks are getting anxious because there is no place to file their proposals in any of the regular tracks. Can we tell them they will be OK for the OSSIE track? The only downside I see to this is that there may be other folks who could contribute to the track that might not have a chance. Let's see how things go at 15X and maybe plan to expand OSSIE for 16X.
To reiterate... yes, OSSIE-SoCal/Unleash Kids/olpc 2.0/etc would like a booth at SCaLE 15X!
Thanks!
Caryl (for the OSSIE team)

Hi Caryl,
I think we can manage a booth. On rooms, one's probably easy. Two will get interesting, so let's see what we can do about that.

Q: Results from CFP... did we get enough?
What areas do we need more coverage?
As I am experimenting more with twitter for outreach I am encountering possible people to invite to participate with SCALE 15x and it would be good to know if there are areas which I may encourage greater participation.
btw - Most of my focus currently is Open Data, Big Data, DevOps, and Info-Sec related.
Thank you Matti

350+ proposals.
What areas do we need more coverage?
The program committee is meeting later this week, and we'll have a better sense of inventory on the main tracks. Some of the side events, will be reviewed after the holiday weekend.

Hello all:
I would like to know how Black Women in Technology can become involved? I know the opportunities in open source abound 😊
My goal is to make sure our group can encourage more black women to migrate towards open source. Thanks in advance for your replies.
Warmly, Lori Mitchell

Hi Lori,
Sounds like you are looking for opportunities to explore and expand FLOSS with Black Women in Technology. I am a Black Person in FLOSS and I would love to have a conversation with you about your organization participants and potential opportunities to engage in FLOSS activities.
I encourage you to browser through 2 particular resources that may provide a FLOSS distro context and have your participants identify any that they are interested in testing or getting more familiar with:
http://turnkeylinux.org http://distrowatch.org
Ok as i go through your website I see; Keila Banks Presents at SCALE 14x. I know her dad, mom, grandfather and siblings. She would be a good one to involve in expanding FLOSS for your organization.
I also wound up on the: http://www.steamcoders.org/programs/
where i see a class that we would like to have at our OSSIE day (sat, march4) @ SCALE:
Introduction to "Scratch" ~ Students in Grades 4-7 (First-time Coders) Oct. 22nd - Dec. 10th ~ Saturdays - 8:30 am – 12:00 pm University of La Verne - Founder's Hall - Rm. FH - 207 1950 3rd St, La Verne, CA 91750

Thanks for all the responses. I am well aware of SteamCoders and know Keila l, et al well. I will present the opportunity to volunteer at SCALE to the women in our group as exposure. And, discuss FLOSS (heard about it through a colleague at GHC this year). Thanks again!

fyi - I would like to frame volunteering at SCALE as more than just exposure, also as participation and helping to make the larger community more diverse. Do note that the original team which started SCALE are now well connected and working for some of the top tech companies, and thus I hope that there will also be good networking and mentoring opportunities.
