Hi all,
SGVTech is participating in Connect Week by having an open house/networking
mixer on Thursday, 10/25 @ 7pm. We plan on doing our usual promotion of
SCALE and in particularly, we'll be recruiting volunteers for the SCALE A/V
team.
https://www.meetup.com/SGVTech/events/255544051/
Who has possession of the SCALE banner? Is there new artwork for SCALE 17x?
Does anyone have a flyer prepared? Is there a particular message we want
to get out at this particular time?
Also, where should I direct people who are interested in a booth at SCALE?
At least one student club and LAPL are interested, and we'll probably do
one this year too.
Also, one of the benefits of being involved in Connect Week is that we have
had good conversations with Innovate Pasadena. There could be great
opportunities for Innovate Pasadena to help SCALE. There are a lot of
companies hiring now, and it'd be worth letting them know that SCALE is a
great place for them to make their presence known to tech folks who already
have a lot of the skills they are looking for.
Lan
Hello,
Do we have any artwork for SCALE 17x yet? Would like to start updating all
our social media presences like our FB page, twitter account, etc.
Thanks,
Ilan
Hi,
Just a reminder, some I've pitched this idea directly to you during
Shellcon.
We can organize an event(s) during Connect Week to help promote SCALE 17x.
There are some nice venues available.
Connect week(+) Oct 20-28, 2018 in Pasadena:
Innovate Pasadena ( a non-profit to promote innovation, tech, arts, and
science in Pasadena ) is helping community events do events / meetups
during that period by assisting with connecting us with venues. Many of the
venues are donating their spaces. ( Connect Week will also assist with
marketing )
So, that makes it very easy for us in the community to organize events! We
would still need to find food / coffee sponsors.
I highly encourage anyone interested to do something.
There are spaces available for weeknights, weekdays, and weekends.
https://connectpasadena.com/
This is an annual event, and thus we should be able to utilize the
opportunity to build partner community run events which Innovate Pasadena
will assist us with.
We can use this opportunity to do something in Pasadena to support our
regular user groups and larger conferences / events.
If you need an introduction to the IP folks who can assist you, please let
me know.
Thank You
Matti
ps - I have RSVP'ed a venue for a "product" day on Sat 10/27 and now will
need to secure a food and a coffee sponsor and a couple more presentations
/ content. There appeared to be a number of larger venues available to
handle 30-100+ people, and I see a lot of great opportunities for us to
build a stronger community.
Hi,
Help us connect with others and get the word out about SCALE during connect
week.
If you're in the LA area please do stop by events you like during Connect
Week Oct 20-28, 2018 and connect with those organizing and presenting. If
people willing to come to Pasadena for Connect Week - they'll come to SCALE
17X! ( well, if they're interested in our topics ).
Throughout the year I attempt to connect with numerous groups and
organizers whom I believe would be good connections to collaborate with
SCALE. As there are a lot of interesting events happening during Pasadena
Connect week I am encouraging everyone interested to help participate and
get more inclusion for SCALE for greater participation.
We can also invite them to participate with SGVtech, and attend the Open
House SGVtech is planning.
For example:
This looks like a very good event organized by folks interested in AI / ML
/ Blocakchain.
While I don't care about the "Investors" aspect, there should be some good
over lap on the tech aspects.

Here's the connect week info:

Thank You
Matti
FYI -
1) Big Data Day LA is coming up Sat Aug 11, 2018 at USC
If you're in town and not at Def Con and would like to help out, we're
still looking for volunteers to assist ( PM me if you want to help out ).
Also, good event to attend, will have a lot of presentations lined up. As a
volunteer / community run event - it is very affordable

2) Pasadena Connect week scheduled for Oct 20-28, 2018
A week of innovate / tech events in Pasadena.
Similar to LA Tech Week.
Maybe useful to plan a few events in Pasadena that week and promote SCALE
2019.

Need some help from this list.
I am trying to locate a suitable meeting place for our group which is 20 to
30 people in the Pasadena area. Meeting time from 5:30 pm to 7:30.
Preferably on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. We only meet quarterly.
I have tried Pasadena Convention Center and Cross Campus. Any other place
I can try? Restaurant or Bar is OK for us as long as I have a room that I
can do presentation.
thanks for the help and have a nice weekend,
Anthony.
thanks. :)

This year I wrote automation around Guidebook. It was enough to run a script
and suck in data without dealing with the CVS import stuff. However, there's
more to be done - ideally we'd get to a point where it can just be cron'd.
I've created a Project on the GH repo to track the necessary work:
https://github.com/socallinuxexpo/program-generation/projects/1
Ilan - one of them would require an addition to the Guidebook API - do we have
a contact there we could request that through? Today you cannot publish guide
changes through the API.
Ron - one those would is around the website. Do you think the CVS-export links
could be non-auth'd? At leats for the 'accepted' one, there's no non-public
data there, it's ismply the Schedule in CVS format. That would make things
much simpler.
