1) One-time use for 22x. (theme changes every year and I don't want to add to things we're storing) 2) I haven't landed on size/dimensions yet, I will do the math this weekend though. My guess is the cardboard mailing tubes may be what determines the size of all of this. 3) Current estimate is 9-12 needed.
Thanks for the ideas and links. Styrofoam might be another good option, thanks for mentioning. Spray paint is definitely outside of what I'm comfortable with doing on-site at the convention center though. Thanks again for your thoughts on this!

But those are expensive, and available only in Europe.
And depending on size, you could always get Styrofoam and cut it to size (or glue pieces together to get a larger size), then glue the rings on there. Then spray paint.
But the best bet is probably what you were suggesting and finding a box size you like (FedEx, UPS and USPS gives boxes for shipping for free), then glue or tape the rings on and spray paint.
If this is for multiple years, a better solution could be done by next Scale. m2c, Steve

Something to give the art more depth and help the space feel less bare.
First, I will solicit ideas for any better materials suggestions than my proposal of: Cardboard (box structure), wide cardboard(?) tubes or some other inexpensive cylinders (the "pegs"), and a few different rolls of wrapping paper (solid coloring), and glue/tape as needed. As you might have guessed, I am hoping it's possible to make reasonably easy, inexpensive, and hopefully decent looking blocks.
Second, I would never turn down help with actually producing these on-site either. I'm thinking a dozen or so total (so nothing crazy). The thought is that if this can be done reasonably well this year and seems to work, it's something I would like to see expanded with more planning and forethought moving forward. Either way, we'll see if others are interested. Thoughts, feedback, offers, whatever... all welcome. :)
Note: My biggest concern is obviously that people will move/handle/mistreat them and they're not intended to be "functional" (nor durable). Clearly my design proposal means they'll get trashed pretty easily. Maybe having a few backups available is a good idea. They're basically going to be more like temporary sculpture, so limiting them to just a few places probably reduces that risk to some degree. I'm game for thoughts surrounding this issue too.
