Promoting SCALE at DTLA Mini Maker Faire

Hi all, SGVHAK will be at the DTLA Mini Maker Faire at Central Library in downtown Los Angeles. It's this Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Y'all are welcome to join us. Since the library is hosting it, it's going to be kid and student-friendly with a strong educational bent. Is there anything maker-related or education-related that we should be promoting about SCALE? Any big plans for TNG? I'm happy to pass out flyers. Maybe we can do flyers with a promo code? I would need the flyer by Friday afternoon so I have time to print them out. I can try to mock something up, but would need to know what content to promote. Lan

Hello, My name is Nicole and I would like to cover a brief introduction of myself for SCaLE's volunteer team. I am originally from CT, I study computer science, I like video games, art, and technology and my dream is to get a computer engineering degree. I have recently moved over to the linux operating system, and I'm interested in learning more about system administration in linux, security, and kernel development. I have helped volunteer and organize hackathons and other events in the past involving a lot of different people. I'm really looking forward to helping the tech team and contributing my time to SCaLE, I think it will be a great experience. -Nicole

Tech team cable test and label and other stuff, part II, Nov 11 & 12

Hello, Just extending an invitation to anyone who is in the area and could and would like to help. The Scale Tech finish up testing and labeling network cables, switches, and AP's (and also rehabilitate the carts to haul them around) this weekend. This is the second and hopefully last part of finishing up what we started in August Are hosts this time is OpenX in Pasadena. We wil be meeting at OpenX at around 10 am, and working till about 6pm (hopefully finishing earlier on Sunday). Address: OpenX 888 E Walnut Street Pasadena, CA 91101 We will be using the break room located on the ground floor on the North West of the building (right off of Walnut Ave). We will NOT have parking validated, so please park on the street (there' usually plenty on weekends). Just knock on the window off of Walnut street on the west side of the building. Summer App Space talk on Nov 9th

Hi, I thought this might be of interest to the OSSIE crowd and TNG if they're in the Pasadena area. (And hey, it would be a great talk for next year's SCALE too.) Dr. Christine Corbett Moran (Caltech), who was one of our SCALE keynote speakers last year, will be speaking at SGVLUG about a summer high school coding apprenticeship she ran called Summer App Space It resulted in an open source curriculum on Python and space science that anyone can use for self-study. Promoting SCALE 16x

Hi all, This is about the time of year when I start promoting SCALE and encourage folks to submit to the CFP and volunteer. Are there any new topics or special volunteer needs or events to highlight for SCALE 16x? Next Thursday, I'm going to try to get on the schedule of our internal developer meetup at work. I'm always trying to get my colleagues to participate and attend. We also have our SGVLUG meeting next Thursday; since the topic is Rust, we may pull in folks from outside our normal membership. Tech guys meeting this Saturday (8/26) for cable repair

Hello, Would just like to extend an invitation to whoever is in the SoCal (or close to Pasadena) to the Scale networking tech guys cable testing and repair day. Plan is to test all of the network cables, and label them with the length and and ID number. Will also be matching up the AP's with their appropriate power supply an labeling those also. We will be starting at 10 am at Dave Flynn's workshop at: 11711 Clark Street Suite 108 Arcadia, CA 91006 If you want to get up a littler earlier, we'll (or at least me) will be meeting at Coco's Bakery Restaurant in Pasadena: 77 N Lake Ave Pasadena, CA 91101 And then be at the storage facility at 8:30 am to load up the cables and AP's: 171 S Arroyo Parkway Pasadena, CA 91105 After ward, we will be having lunch, place and time has yet to be decided.
