Thanks for enabling an Open Data track

Hi, I just wanted to share with the team a success story what SCaLE 15x enabled. While it is a small start, it is a significant strategic win for SCaLE and the pro-Open Source and pro-Open Data community. 1) Code for America Brigades had a booth on the expo floor, mostly populated by volunteers from the local LA Chapter ( Hack for LA, thus if you visited the booth you would have seen their banner ) Note, some of the volunteers also work in the local government agencies. We plan to invite and encourage the participation of additional brigades for the next SCaLE. 2) On Sunday we had the Open Data: Cities Panel. http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/presentations/open-data-cities-panel During that event we had 4 presenting panelists: Phillip LeClair, CIO City of Pasadena; Jeanne Holm, Assistant General Manager/ Deputy CIO of City of Los Angeles; Behrang Abadi, Sr IT Manager City of Santa Monica. Jasmine Frost, Business Information Systems Bureau Manager City of Long Beach Jasmine also brought with her Bryan M. Sastokas, CIO of the City of Long Beach. This was the first time that some of these civic leaders had meet each other, a significant event according to many of those participating. 3) As a result of this we just had an inquiry with regards to sponsorship options from one of the local cities. Considering the ability for SCaLE to be a venue and community which assists in furthering the results of connecting those interested in Open Data and Open Source in civics I would like to encourage you to reach out to their local Code for America Brigades and invite them to join us at SCaLE in 2018. QR code in badge center, not upper right corner

After being told by just about every booth I had my badge scanned at, that my finger was covering the QR code ... I started telling them I will post to this list the suggestion for next year to place the QR code in the very center, so there is never really is any way, that either the left or right hand can cover the centered QR code. I hope this helps next year. Peter

Hi, I'm Danny and I'm taking a Linux sysadmin class at Glendale Community College. I'd like to volunteer for Scale because I don't really know anyone in the community. About me: Open Source software is important to me. I don't know much yet but the principles resonate with me. I'm interested in automation, VR and the tools to create those environments. moin moin, 3rd from the left mic on the panel in room 104 ( Open Data ) is having some problems. It fades in and out and noise spikes a little. rooms 103 and 104 sound bleedover

moin moin, sound from room 104 can overwhelm the speakers in room 103. Some of that is due to going from quiet speakers to loud speakers. Not much to do about that. The wall between the rooms wasn't closed properly. I fixed it some, but there's still a gap, so it would be nice if we can try to reset the wall tonight after the talks. Tom says the speakers in 104 are quieter in the front than they are in the back, which is right next to 103. AV tonight

moin moin, we have user groups meeting in Ballrooms A and C tonight between 19:00 and 21:00. Both have requested AV as they have presentations as part of their group meeting. Are we set for those rooms? Including Linux Sucks and Open Source is Awesome in DE, that gives us 3 rooms w/ AV tonight.
