Thanks to everyone who put this scale together. Registration and signage was painless and excellent, there were good sliders nearby, and there was even a place to plug in my EV in the parking garage :-) In fact, this is the best registration experience I've ever had. Networking held up reasonably well. Worse problem I saw was 30 seconds to connect to public-slow in ballroom GH. The only real problem I experienced was the awful audio problems in ballroom GH. Thankfully it was intermittent, but at times, it made me want to run away. Looking forward to day 2! - Dan

SCaLE CryptoParty Revisited

Hi… I’d like to re-visit the possibility of having a CryptoParty BoF at SCaLE. If we avoid the times of all the big evening events, including the Key Signing party, I really can’t find an evening time slot that would work. I did put in for one in the evening. Someone suggested it should be 2 hours. So, I put in for one… but there really wasn’t any good time. We have to allow time for folks to eat dinner and get to wherever the events are. Nothing left for BoFs that I can see. So, I have one idea… how about Saturday and/or Sunday morning from 8 am to 9:45 am? It isn’t quite 2 hours and folks would have to eat before coming. But it could possibly work. There are a lot of areas of Cyber-security we could deal with, but this would be for the “ordinary folk,” like me, who don’t deal with large corporate files and important business transactions and things like that. We would just like to keep our personal cell phones relatively secure and our internet browsing private as much as possible. That is probably all we could cover in an hour and a half or so anyway. If we did it on Sunday morning it could even be announced on Saturday evening at the UpScale gathering. If we concentrated on cell phone and browsing only. I can probably get some people who are using Signal to help do something on that. I just installed Badger on Chrome but I’m not sure how much that does for me yet. Der Hans, are you still interested in helping organize this? Anyone else want to contribute ideas/skills? Can we get a room to do it in the AM? Can it be near the Keynote (and a restroom) so people who don’t want to miss that will have time to get there? Caryl P.S. Maybe if it goes well we could get it sponsored next year with a continental breakfast or something like that.

What to do with the extra space on the badge stock?

Hi folks, The attendee badges are printed on 8.5" x 11" badge stock. The paper is perforated and divided into six 4" x 3" cards. We use 2 cards to print the badge and the receipt, which leaves 4 blank cards. Does anyone have suggestions on what to put in those spaces? In the past, we have used the space for "Welcome to SCALE" messages, maps, raffle tickets, and QR codes for the Guidebook app.

Game Night volunteering

if you've attended Game Night in the past and would like to work behind the scenes this year, now is the time to let me know. this year's party is going to be the biggest one yet. we have great new ideas to put into action, and it's always a little surprising how everything finally turns out. we split up the work so everyone has time to play. day volunteers who would like to help with Game Night can work on saturday or sunday. four saturday teams set up the party, run the party events, and help pack things up. the sunday team takes the truck back to storage (it's just up the street) and puts everything away for next year. if you'd like to be part of Game Night, shoot me an email with your cell phone number, and we'll find a spot for you on a team. ...lori

Volunteer with ADHD denied visa waiver to attend SCaLE and help with the olpc2.0 booth!

Hi folks... We may have lost one of our booth volunteers who was to fly in from England next week. It seems that his visa waiver was denied because he marked on his application that he has ADHD! Can you imagine! How many programmers, hackers, etc have ADHD???!!! We are trying to get Sen. Diane Feinstein to help with this, but he may not be able to come. I wonder if others from outside the US will run into similar hitches??? Caryl

Question about Saturday keynote speaker

Hi all, I saw a SCALE Newsletter that said that Dr. Christine Corbett Moran of Caltech will be the keynote speaker for Saturday. I can see the entry on the schedule, but I'm perplexed why this was not announced on the SCaLE website or Twitter. http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/speakers/christine-corbett-moran She's one of my selling points for promoting SCaLE to the Caltech/JPL community, so I would like to know if I'm being premature in advertising this.
