OSCON Booth Planning

Hello, As Gareth mentioned last week, we are currently planning a SCALE booth at OSCON. As of today we have confirmed our presence, and would like to start planning efforts. So far our onsite volunteers for booth staffing duties are: Lei, Ilan, Gareth, Joe. If you are unable to join us but would like to help with booth planning, we would still appreciate your assistance. Here are ideas I have for our checklist thus far. Please reply if you are able to assist with any of these items, or have any other suggestions on other items or tasks you believe would be useful. - Collect contact information for volunteers and distribute prior to the show. (unassigned) - Design flyer for event attendees, as well as potential speakers. (unassigned) - Print flyers (Ilan) - Post to SCALE blog about OSCON booth with booth #. (Orv / scale-pr) - Bring SCALE's pre-made banner and banner stand (Ilan) - (1-2) Power Strips (unassigned) - (1) Camera for pictures of booth for blog. - Bag of mints or other candies to draw people to the booth. - Paper or digital mailing list sign-up. (we used a notepad last year and collected 2-3 pages of addresses) Other ideas: - Do we need a laptop or projector to display anything in the booth? I can bring one of each if required. I don't however have a screen. - Other giveaways? I dont think we have much schwag left over from last year. - If we wish to hold some sort of a raffle, we still have (2) rolls of tickets left over from SCALE 6x. Volunteers needed for possible SCALE Booth at OSCON - July 23 - 24, 2008

Greetings everyone, We are currenlty looking into the possibility of having a SCALE booth at OSCON in Portland, OR later this month. Is anyone planning on being there who might be interested in helping out at the booth? The exhibit hall hours are from 10am to 4:30pm on Wednesday the 23rd and 10am to 5:00pm on Thursday the 24th. We will be using the booth to promote the SoCal Linux Expo to the OSCON attendees, exhibitors and speakers. If you've been looking for a way to get involved in SCALE and you'll be at OSCON, this is great first step. We have not secured a booth as we want to make sure we have enough volunteers. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in helping out so that we can secure a booth. S7X Speaker Tracks - quantity & type?

In an effort to be more open, SCALE has decided to move some of the discussion (planning - doh) for SCALE 7x to the SCALE-planning list. Here are our first thoughts on the number and type of session tracks we're contemplating for SCALE 7x in February. - Note that the "lab tutorial" track that Shyam mentions below was tried last year as the Education track's hand-on lab; we're considering formalizing it in some way. - Note #2 - the CFP that Shyam mentions is the "Call For Papers; the solicitation for proposals for talks. We'd appreciate your input on the tracks and possible content for them. Caveat - what we want and what we can get frequently diverge - nothing said here will be cast in stone. Just from memory, it seems like we will have 3 main tracks (as usual) 1 beginner track 1 developer track 1 lab tutorial track (??) So I am assuming that we will have enough space for the above 6 tracks (or at least 5 if we leave the lab track). Having said that, my thinking was along the lines of having one CFP with information about the above, say 3 main tracks + developer track and then have a separate CFP for the beginners track (generally we get a lot of submissions for this one). I'll send out a rough draft of the same in the next couple of days. . Haiku Code Drive 2008

Hello Haiku fans, The Haiku Projcet is glad to announce the first Haiku Code Drive, a program designed to raise funds from the community in order to sponsor students to produce code for Haiku. The Haiku Code Drive 2008 program specifically targets students that applied for Haiku but could not make it into the Google Summer of Code. They will be offering them a U$2,500 stipend per successfully completed project.
