Call For Volunteers

Hello, It's that time of the year again, and SCALE 7x is just around the corner. The conference will be held on February 20-22, 2009 at the LAX Westin hotel here in Los Angeles. As with previous years, organizing SCALE requires a large amount of time and energy. In order to make the event possible we rely on a strong team effort and the help of volunteers from the community. If you are available to help with setup, tear down, or other portions of SCALE we would greatly appreciate your assistance. If you are interested in volunteering to help, please send me an email at bala(a)socallinuxexpo.org <mailto:bala@socallinuxexpo.org>. We can use the help of volunteers during all setup and event days, even if you are only able to assist for a few hours. 2/19: Late Afternoon and Evening 2/20-2/22: Through out the day. Just a few examples of areas where we have needed help in the past are: * Setup and tear down. * Unpacking/Packing boxes. * Stuffing tote bags and registration area setup. * Room monitors and speaker introductions * Registration Desk * Attendee Greeter and Information Desk * Assisting our A/V team. * Assisting our tech team with running cables and unpacking equipment. * Placing signs around the venue. and more... We appreciate everyone's support, and look forward to seeing you all at SCALE in February. FOSS Camp - December 5th - 6th, 2008

Hey everyone, The is a great event taking place up in Mountain View, CA in December. Right before the Ubuntu Developers Summit, FOSS Camp will be taking place. This goal of this event is to encourage developers from across the free & open source universe to come and gather, trade and share ideas, and generally improve free & open source software. While it is taking place right before UDS, it is a completely neutral event and all FOSS projects are invited to participate. If you're currently involved in a free and open source project I would encourage you to attend this event as well as future events like this. Hello, I know Ilan is going to be at LISA w/ the SCALE booth, but anyone else planning on going or lives in SD, or just wants to drive down there for the evening, the Free Software Foundation is hosting a pizza party in San Diego, on Tuesday, November 11th, 6:30-8:30pm for FSF Associate Members and free software enthusiasts. Chat about free software with Hugo Award-winning author, Vernor Vinge Hosted by the Free Software Foundation 6:30-8:30pm at the Best Western 411 Hotel Circle S, San Diego If you aren't already a member you can join online now at <http://www.fsf.org/jf> or you could also join at the event. You don't have to RSVP, but we'd certainly appreciate it, let us know you're coming by emailing membership(a)fsf.org Beer and both vegan and traditional cheese-covered pizza will be available. The Best Western has free parking for drivers, and it's about a ten minute walk from the Fashion Valley Transit Center for non-drivers. Ohio Linux Fest - Oct 10-11

The folks at OLF put on a community focussed conference, similar to SCALE, every year in Ohio. If you are in the mid-west this December, I would recommend checking it out. Hosting authoritative speakers and a large expo, the Ohio LinuxFest welcomes Free and Open Source Software professionals, enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to take part in the event. The Ohio LinuxFest is a free, grassroots conference for the Linux/Open Source Software/Free Software community that started in 2003 as a large inter-LUG meeting and has grown steadily since. It is a place for the community to gather and share information about Linux and Open Source Software.
