Hello,
I saw this mentioned in the Oreilly UG newsletter: https://plus.google.com/108178010523548991871/posts/NDGpVNcnyDF?imm_mid=0a38...
Might be something to try out for real time alerting to the venue about temperature issues in our jam packed meeting rooms.

totally worth doing! wish we could tie charges to that room into an environmental comfort zone...like, if the temp goes beyond 75 degrees F we should get free ice cream. :-)

Would also be interesting to see if it would be used with motion sensors to see when people come into or leave talks. Gauge interest in topics as well as number of people in the rooms.

to track attendance we should just put secret gps locators in the scale pins in the swag bags. :-)

We should program electric force fields to stop those who are trying to sneak out of conference rooms in the middle of a talk, no matter how boring the subject matter.
And I like the free ice cream idea. ;)

It would likely get expensive fast & privacy is thrown out the window but having small RFIDs in the badges would work too :)

There are badge companies that offer these instead of barcodes. Last we looked at it there were 2 concerns, the first is that the badge price went from cents to dollars. The second was privacy. While I'm sure the price has come down in the last 7 years, I dont expect the privacy concerns have changed.

There was a session on how they collected processed the data. It sounds like they'll be selling the Arduino shields they used online later this month. Google also said they'd be open-sourcing their code for the collection and data processing.
