Seeking a volunteer in or near torrance

Hello, One of our sponsors bawls has donated a few cases of their energy drink to be used as raffle prizes at this year's event. Their distributor Real Soda in Real Bottles is located in Torrance. Would anyone who is out that way be willing to pick them up from their location? There is no rush on this. It can be done in mid January. Hello, SCALE is currently in need of sessions and tutorials specifically geared at new users to Linux and open-source. If you are interested in speaking or running one of these sessions please see the CFP bellow. Thanks, Ilan Rabinovitch Conference Chair Southern California Linux Expo 2006 Southern CAlifornia Linux Expo Beginners Tutorial CFP The USC, Simi/Conejo, and UCLA Linux User Groups are proud to announce the 4th annual Southern California Linux Expo scheduled for February 11-12, 2006 at the Westin Hotel near the Los Angeles International Airport. Building on the tremendous response to the Beginners tutorial track we had last year, we wanted to have a similar track this year as well. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: Linux System Admin issues Linux distributions Linux Networking Linux Applications Linux for Desktops LAMP Linux Howtos Multimedia in Linux IPtables/IPchains in Linux Wireless tools in Linux Linux Games Open Source Database Servers Samba, OpenSSh/SSLGIMP & other graphics software Other open softwares The proposals should comprise a 1-page (maximum) description containing the following: 1] Title for the talk. 2] Name, Affiliation, Bio, contact email address of the Presenter. 3] A description enlisting what will be covered in the session. 4] Any specific requirements needed for the presentation other than an overhead projector and a microphone. For example: UCLA, UCSB, CSUN, etc. Would anyone be interested in volunteering to help with this? Hello, We have been speaking with the folks at USENIX about promoting SCALE via a booth at LISA. It looks like it should be doable, but what we're missing is the man power to run the booth. LISA will take place in San Diego during the second week of December. OT Linux migration question

Hi group, I thought that with your vast experience of Linux you might have ideas for me. I now have a chance to roll out linux desktops for public/client use in some small community service type non-profits. These machines will be used by people who are barely computer literate--maybe they have just enough windows experience to download lots of virusi, if you follow me. I figure my needs are: * an automated install--like kickstart, ya know... * a desktop that is easy to use for windows users (not a system that is easy to admin). It wouldn't hurt if the desktop *looked* like windows, too (aakkkk!) * system must be stable (idiot proof), does not have to be bleeding edge I welcome your suggestions Steve

SCALE Seeks New Tech Committee Chair

Hello SCALE fans, SCALE is currently looking for a new chairperson for our Technical committee. Responsibilities would include: - Design, implementation and coordination of all network connectivity during the conference. - Providing technical support with network related issues during the conference. - Evaluating power requirements and coordinating procurement with Facilities Chairman. - Administrating and maintaining SCALE servers (LAMP, Sendmail, various web apps). - Attending SCALE planning meetings. (70 / 30 mix IRC / in person). - Putting together a team of volunteers to help your before, during and after the show.
