Hi Ilan, et al,
We never heard back from you re our request for a possible 2 rooms for OSSIE at SCaLE 15X. So.... I'll ask again! Our thinking is that one room could be for talks (we already have enough speakers to fill a one day schedule) and the other for a "hands on/meet the speaker-expert" room with such things as 3-D printing, software and hardware demos, etc. But.... we would be happy to settle for just one room if that is all that is available for OSSIE. Actually, a large (double) booth like we have had before as a .org could double as a "second room."
The folks are getting anxious because there is no place to file their proposals in any of the regular tracks. Can we tell them they will be OK for the OSSIE track? The only downside I see to this is that there may be other folks who could contribute to the track that might not have a chance. Let's see how things go at 15X and maybe plan to expand OSSIE for 16X.
To reiterate... yes, OSSIE-SoCal/Unleash Kids/olpc 2.0/etc would like a booth at SCaLE 15X!
Thanks! Caryl (for the OSSIE team)

Subject: [Scale-planning] SCALE CFP Closing on 11/15 Hi Folks,
A quick reminder that the SCALE CFP is closing in 10 days. We appreciate any help you can offer in spreading the word to your favorite open-source projects, communities and user groups/meetups.

FYI - this may interest some here, especially those in SF as there is a
special event Sat:
Aaron Swartz Day and International Hackathon
http://www.aaronswartzday.org/
FYI - SCALE 15x now listed as a sponsor to So Cal Code Camp LA, coming up
Nov 12-13, 2016
What does this mean to us for possible action items:
1) Links back to https://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/
Thus if we want to update that landing page, now is a good time to consider
what we would like to do.
2) As a part of the partners, we are expected to help promote the event.
I have been assisting them with community outreach, and I would like to see
us do a little more.
A) Twitter - we should send a tweet encouraging participation.
B) Email newsletter - no is a good time to send a message out to people
reminding them about SCALE 15x call for papers as well as the new date, we
can also include - something on our partners at So Cal Code Camp.
[ I am happy to write the email newsletter announcement if someone would
like to proof it and make any adjustments as needed. ]
3) So Cal Code Camp LA - STILL has available rooms for presentations, IF
anyone associated with SCALE would like to do a presentation, I HIGHLY
encourage it. You can then use that presentation to help promote SCALE by
announcing when you wrap it up.. "Learn more at SCALE"...
Thank You
Matti
moin moin,
Are there any GNU/Linux, OpenStack, Puppet, etc users groups having a
meeting in or near Santa Clara, CA during the week next week?
I doubt I'll have a car or time to get into the City.

Hi,
So Cal Code Camp is a free community run developer centric event.
Everyone interested in dev related topics is welcome to participate.
I am working with the organizers to do community outreach and help build a
stronger event.
Everyone from SCALE and any LUG or open source tech group is invited and
welcome to participate in So Cal Code Camp.
I would like to see a few members of the area LUGs signup to do some
interesting presentations. During the presentation you can mention who you
are as well as the LUG / UG you participate in and that the group meets
regularly and encourages new members to join, as well as mentioning that
SCALE 15x is coming in March.

Feel free to ask me questions.
Thank You
Matti
I've marked our chef repo as public:
https://github.com/socallinuxexpo/scale-chef
It's by no means in perfect shape, but there's no secrets in it, there's
contributing docs, and it's running the site, so no reason not to have it open
to the world.
My co-workers were kind enough to help over the last few months whipping this
all into shape. The goal of doing all the work we did to automate everything
the site does in Chef was to make sure the setup was transparent, easy to see,
and easy to contribute to. While it follows the Facebook model (which meant
having to write very little code ourselves), which isn't the most common model
in the Chef world, it is a well documented and used by a variety of
organizations (not just FB), and most importantly, it makes making changes
very simple.

Hi all,
Pasadena Connect Week is next week, starting on Oct 16th and continuing through the 23rd. It's a week-long celebration of science, technology, design and entrepreneurship and there will be talks, workshops, open houses, and happy hours. It's probably a good opportunity to recruit speakers, sponsors, and volunteers.
Here is the list of eventshttps://connectpasadena.com/events
